🥋 SELF-DEFENSE: How We Teach It at Our Dojo.

The term self-defense is often used throughout the martial arts world, but its depth varies greatly from dojo to dojo. Some schools limit their instruction to simple one-step techniques. Others explore bunkai (application of kata) for self-defense—sometimes only in theory, sometimes with physical practice. A few incorporate broader approaches, including ground defense. At the Japanese Martial Arts Academy, we take a comprehensive approach. Our self-defense training blends multiple disciplines:

• Goju-ryu Karate and its bunkai applications

• Wing Chun for close-range efficiency

• Aikijujutsu for control and redirection

• Wrestling and Jujutsu for grappling and ground defense

• Kickboxing for striking versatility

This multi-faceted curriculum ensures students gain practical skills for real-world situations.
